Create a free account to check your CV A free account includes 5 ATS or resume scores every month (Premium 25, Executive 100). Your results are saved to your account and the Expertini app.

Your file is read once to score it and is never stored. Only the score summary is saved to your account.

Each check uses 1 of your monthly scores.

What the score is made of

Six checks, modelled on the steps an ATS and a recruiter go through. Each one shows what we found and how to fix it.

  • 35Skills & keywords — the skills, tools and qualifications in the advert, weighted by how often and how prominently it asks for them.
  • 20File & formatting — can the text be read: no scans, columns, tables, text boxes or details hidden in headers.
  • 15Sections & contact — standard headings and your email, phone and location where an ATS looks for them.
  • 10Job title — whether your CV uses the advertised title.
  • 10Experience & education — years asked for vs. the dates in your CV; the degree level asked for.
  • 10Results & action verbs — bullets that start with a verb and show a number.

ATS resume checker for jobs in Nice: how it works

Many employers and recruitment agencies in Nice receive applications through an applicant tracking system (ATS) — software such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Taleo, iCIMS, Greenhouse or Lever. The ATS turns your CV into plain text, files it into fields (contact details, jobs, education, skills) and lets the recruiter search and rank applicants by keywords and job title. This checker runs the same steps on your CV against the advert you paste, so you can see what the system sees before you apply.

How ATS software reads a CV

  1. Parsing. The file is converted to text. Scanned or photographed CVs contain no text at all; two-column layouts, tables and text boxes are often read in the wrong order; contact details placed in the page header can be skipped; icon fonts turn into blanks.
  2. Sections. Standard headings — Professional Summary, Work Experience, Education, Skills — tell the parser where each field starts. Creative headings such as “My journey” are easy for people and hard for software.
  3. Search and ranking. Recruiters search for the skills, tools, licences and job titles in their advert. CVs that use the advert’s exact terms rank higher; years of experience are worked out from the dates of each job.
  4. A person reads it. Only then does a recruiter read your CV — which is why results with numbers and strong verbs matter as much as keywords.

How this ATS score is calculated

The score is out of 100 and rule-based — no AI, and the same file and advert always give the same result. Each part shows what was found and how to fix it:

CheckPointsWhat we look at
Skills & keywords35Skills, tools, licences and qualifications taken from the advert (a curated list of several hundred terms across healthcare, trades, IT, finance, hospitality, logistics and more, plus phrases the advert repeats). Terms marked essential or repeated count more; “nice to have” terms count less. Plurals, verb forms, British/American spelling and common abbreviations (JS / JavaScript) are matched.
File & formatting20Readable text (not a scan), one column, no layout tables or text boxes, contact details outside the header, readable characters, sensible length.
Sections & contact15Email, phone, location and LinkedIn; recognisable Summary, Experience, Education and Skills headings.
Job title10Your CV uses the advertised job title (or a close variant). Enter the title above if the advert does not start with it.
Experience & education10Years of experience the advert asks for vs. the date ranges in your CV; the degree level it asks for vs. the highest one in your CV.
Results & action verbs10The share of your bullet points that include a number and start with an action verb, and their length.

If fewer than a quarter of the advert’s key terms are in your CV and the job title does not match, the total is capped at 45: a tidy CV for a different kind of job is still a low match for this one. A part that cannot be checked (for example, no job title anywhere) is left out and the rest are scaled to 100.

Quick wins before you apply

  • Save your CV as a text-based PDF or .docx from Word or Google Docs — never a scan or photo.
  • Use one column, standard headings and plain bullet points; keep contact details in the page body.
  • Mirror the advert’s wording for skills you really have (“Microsoft Excel”, not only “spreadsheets”).
  • Give every job a title, employer and start/end month and year.
  • Start bullets with a verb and show a result: “Cut waiting times by 20%”.

Next: compare the plain word overlap with the resume score, rebuild your layout in the CV builder, or write a matching cover letter.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the score a real ATS will give my CV?

No ATS publishes its scoring, and each employer configures theirs differently. This is an estimate built on the steps they share — parsing, section recognition, keyword and title search, stated requirements — and every point comes with the reason. Use it to find problems, not as a promise.

Do ATS systems automatically reject most CVs?

You may have read that most CVs are rejected by software before a person sees them. We know of no reliable source for that figure. Most systems store every application; the risk is that a badly parsed CV, or one without the advert’s keywords, sits low in a recruiter’s search results and is never opened.

Is my CV stored?

No. The file is read once in memory to calculate the score and then discarded. Your account keeps only the summary — the score, the advert’s keywords you matched or missed and the fixes — so you can compare checks over time on the website and in the Expertini app. You can delete any saved check.

How many checks can I run?

You need a free Expertini account. Each month a free account includes 5 ATS or resume scores, Premium 25 and Executive 100. The allowance resets on the 1st of the month.

Should I add every missing keyword?

Only the ones that are true. Recruiters read the CV after the ATS ranks it, and keyword stuffing — or hidden white or tiny text — is easy to spot and can cost you the interview.

PDF or Word — which is better for ATS?

Modern systems read both well when the file contains real text. Problems come from layout, not the format: scans, images, columns, text boxes and tables. Older .doc files are best re-saved as .docx or PDF.

Why is my ATS score different from my resume score?

They measure different things. The resume score is a plain word-overlap percentage — the number Expertini shows an employer with your application. The ATS score also checks how readable your file is, your sections, job title, experience and results.

Does it work for adverts in other languages?

The skills list and section headings are in English, so it works best with English-language adverts and CVs. For other languages, the formatting checks still apply but keyword matching is less complete.
